Why do we love Paul Potts?

Last week I forwarded a link to a couple of videos featuring Paul Potts (click here to see the first video).

The responses to this video have been overwhelming -- several people have been e-mailing me to thank me for sending them the link (that doesn't normally happen) and many have passed the link along to others who are expressing their gratitude.

I have some theories about why this video means so much, but I'm curious to know what you think.

First, a very good blog you have here! I've never posted to a blog before.

I think people identify with Paul and like to root for the underdog. Paul was clearly near the end of his hopes and dreams at the first audition. I'm sure that many people feel the same way and he gives them hope. He also comes across as a good man with a good heart. I'll be following his career to see how and if fame, acceptance, and wealth will affect him.

Thanks for the kind words -- I believe you are correct, I think we can all identify with that feeling, we've all been in that position where we're giving everything we have and we're just not sure if it's good enough.

Paul is a great underdog.

I, too, am curious to see how the new fame and wealth will affect him.

I had an overwhelmingly emotional response to Paul because of the magic in his voice. That magic struck straight for the soul. Irresistible. I noticed the same spontaneous response from the judges and the audience.
I think that the "pull for the underdog" may be a veil for acknowledging the magic that occurs when the heart is touched by something too mysterious to explain.
